Thornless Honeylocust – A Popular Ornamental Tree

Why Thornless Honeylocust?

The honey locust, scientifically known as Gleditsia triacanthos 'Inermis and sometimes thornless honey locust is a tree that sheds its leaves in the fall and is a member of the Fabaceae family. Although called "Thornless Honey Locust" Gleditsia Triacanthos 'Inermis' can sometimes form small thorns if the plant is under distress.  It is only found in its native environment in the middle of North America, in the moist soil in river valleys. Not only is the honey locust a species highly adaptable to a wide range of environments.

It has a small stem and an open, spreading crown, and the leaves have a fine texture and are compounded in a pinnate technique. This gives it a delicate appearance.

The pulp is green in color in unripe pods, but in mature pods, it is very sweet, crisp, and succulent. In the cracks and crevices of the pulp, you'll find beans that are a deep brown color and rich in tannin.

Looking forward to this little guy getting bigger. Arrives in a thin box and is about 2'6" long total. I appreciated the service the Tree Store offered. They shipped it early at my request. Thanks!

The tree arrived as promised in November. Dormant with good root mass. We followed the planting instructions and hope it gets growing well in the spring.

The trees came packed very well with instructions on their care. After we planted them they took off growing. Very healthy trees and I can't wait for them to be full grown in all their beauty.

Product was alive when received 2 days ago. I planted and have been watering. That's about as much of a review as I can give at this time.

    Honey Locust

Trees arrived well packed, ready to go in the ground. Buds were present on arrival and became leaves shortly after being planted. Will order more trees due to the success I’ve had with my first order.

    Thornless Honey Locust

I purchased a Thornless Honey Locust tree from the Tree Store and am thoroughly satisfied. It was sent in a dormant state with the roots in a well wrapped moisture sack. Also, the box it was sent in was sturdy enough to keep the small trunk from breaking. \ I panted the seedling immediately and am waiting for this little baby to wake up and grow. Also, the Tree Store sent along with the Honey Locust seedling 3 additional Red Dosier Dogwood seedlings as gifts. Right away, I got those babies planted in the back yard, too. Thanks Tree Store!
