Paper Birch – Remarkable Papery White Bark Tree

Why Paper Birch (Betula Papyrifera)?

Betula Papyrifera, commonly known as paper birch, is a birch endemic to the northern regions of North America. It gets its name from the tree's papery-looking bark, which is very thin and white and sometimes peels away from the trunk in sections, depending on where in the world you find it. Catkins support both male and female flowers, although they do so in different clusters.

The virtually white wood is utilized for various products, including woodenware, pulp, and fuel. Native Americans made boats and roofs out of some trees' thin, water-resistant bark.

Paper birch is one of the first species to colonize a burnt region in northern latitudes, making them essential for moose browsing. Not to forget, it is one of their favorite trees for feeding on.

The flowers are the wind-pollinated catkins. The female flowers are greenish and grow to be 1+12 inches long, while male blooms may range in length from 2 to 4 inches and have a brownish hue.

    Update to Still waiting

Posted by Everett Jones on 12/25/22

I have to revise my initial comments concerning my order. The trees arrived on the 23rd and looked quite healthy. From the time of my initial rating until after receiving the trees customer service was on top of things and extremely helpful. I'm very pleased with their support and will not hesitate to order from them in the future.

    Nice little trees

Posted by Peter Francis on 02/05/22

The trees arrived as expected and were planted the same day I received them, per the instructions provided. They have been doing well since planting them about a month ago. Unfortunately, while I mulching the trees, I accidentally broke on of the trees at the base - but that's on me. I'm looking forward to watching the trees grow and provide shade for many years to come.

Trees arrived in good condition. Scratch test showed healthy stock. They have been planted per instructions and are being well cared for. We wait now to see if they will take root in their new location. I am hopeful.

    Good so far

    Posted by Unknown on 12/14/21

Ordered these for a fall harvest and planting. We’re in SW Penn and they delivered at the end on the first week of Dec. was a bit worried they would arrive too late to plant but got them immediately in the ground after overnighting in water. Trees arrived well packaged and you could tell they were very much alive. Let’s see how they survive the winter and take off in the spring.
