Introduction:

Malus 'domestica'

Domestic apples make wonderful pies because their low water content and high acidity help them keep their shape and prevent the filling from getting mushy. However, because they are often very tart or sour like a Granny Smith, you must adjust the sugar and spices to balance the flavor.

The Domestic Apple is a thought to be a hybrid mixture of at least four different wild species including Malus sylvestris, M. pumila, M. dasyhylla and M. sieversii. The Domestic Apple is an excellent food source for humans and wildlife. Its beautiful fragrant blossoms are an attraction to birds, bees and butterflies from April through May and makes a wonderful landscape specimen. The tree is self-fruitful (you need only one tree to produce fruit) and it's fruit ripens in the fall of the year. We ship well established 3 foot seedlings.
