  • Size: Grows to a height of 30-70 feet with a spread of 30-50 feet.
  • Foliage: Small, fern-like green leaves turn bright yellow in the fall.
  • Flowers/Fruit: Inconspicuous greenish-yellow flowers in spring, followed by small seed pods.
  • Growth Habit: Upright with a wide, spreading, open canopy.
  • Sunlight: Prefers full sun to partial shade.

  • Pests/Diseases: Generally pest-resistant but may occasionally be affected by cankers or webworms.

Pollination:

The Thornless Honey Locust Tree is wind-pollinated, with small, greenish-yellow flowers appearing in spring. These are followed by small seed pods in the fall, although the thornless variety produces fewer and smaller pods than the regular Honey Locust. Its fern-like leaves and wide-spreading canopy make it a popular choice for providing light, dappled shade, making it ideal for planting in sunny areas where full shade may be too dense.

Key Benefits:

  • Fast-growing tree that provides light, dappled shade and brilliant yellow fall foliage.
  • Adaptable to various soil types and urban environments, making it ideal for streetscapes and home landscapes.
  • Low-maintenance and tolerant of drought, pollution, and poor soil conditions.
  • Fern-like foliage adds texture and movement to your garden or landscape.
  • Hardy and resilient, providing beauty and shade for generations.

Care Instructions:

  • Light: Prefers full sun for optimal growth but tolerates partial shade.
  • Water: Keep soil consistently moist, especially during dry periods.
  • Soil Type: Grows best in well-drained soils but adapts to sandy, loamy, or clay soils.
  • Pollination: Wind-pollinated, with small greenish-yellow flowers in spring.
  • Growth Rate: Fast-growing, reaching up to 2-3 feet per year.
  • Max Height/Width: Reaches 30-70 feet in height and 30-50 feet in width.
  • Pruning: Prune in late winter to shape the tree and remove deadwood.

Whether you’re planting along a street, in a park, or in your backyard, this graceful tree is sure to provide years of enjoyment.

The trees came packed very well with instructions on their care. After we planted them they took off growing. Very healthy trees and I can't wait for them to be full grown in all their beauty.

Product was alive when received 2 days ago. I planted and have been watering. That's about as much of a review as I can give at this time.

Trees arrived well packed, ready to go in the ground. Buds were present on arrival and became leaves shortly after being planted. Will order more trees due to the success I’ve had with my first order.

    Thornless Honey Locust

I purchased a Thornless Honey Locust tree from the Tree Store and am thoroughly satisfied. It was sent in a dormant state with the roots in a well wrapped moisture sack. Also, the box it was sent in was sturdy enough to keep the small trunk from breaking. \ I panted the seedling immediately and am waiting for this little baby to wake up and grow. Also, the Tree Store sent along with the Honey Locust seedling 3 additional Red Dosier Dogwood seedlings as gifts. Right away, I got those babies planted in the back yard, too. Thanks Tree Store!
